THE EVENT WAS HELD WITH GREAT PARTICIPATION AND KEEN INTEREST
The International Silmo Istanbul Optical Fair, which took place between 23-26 November 2023 and celebrated its 10th anniversary, has successfully completed the second Silmo Istanbul Akademik event. The goal of Silmo Istanbul Akademik is to examine and report on the development and change in the optical industry in the 100th year of our Republic, and to present this selection of studies on the development of the Optical Industry to experts by bringing together research in this direction. The event also aspires to provide industry professionals with this selection of studies on the evolution of the optical industry.
With its atmosphere where every detail has been meticulously planned out, Silmo Istanbul Akademik continued to contribute to in-sector education and development of the industry by bringing together sector professionals, academics and students with the latest trends for four days, together with professional speakers and carefully selected current topics.
Silmo Istanbul Akademik was held for the first time back in 2022 as an event that encourages the sharing of knowledge by offering training, seminars and workshops to professionals in the sector. Silmo Istanbul Akademik, which has hosted many academic studies since its first year, has provided support under many topics (informational presentations and trainings) to optical Vocational Schools and industry professionals in order to help them prepare the profession’s experts of the future. Visitors who participated in Silmo Istanbul Akademik programs had the opportunity to access current trends, future developments and qualified information content in the sector. As a space dedicated to courses that provide insight into the important challenges and developments faced in the sector, Silmo Istanbul Akademik has once again proven that it plays a key role in the development and education of the sector, with the participation rate in training seminars increasing significantly compared to last year.
Important faculty members, staff, and students from numerous universities attended this year's Silmo Istanbul Akademik Commission meeting, which is led by lecturers Turgut Çakar of Acıbadem University and Begüm Genç of Istanbul Bilgi University who have been moderating and supporting all academic studies and exhibitions since the beginning of Silmo Istanbul. The "workshop" activities, which included presentations, speeches and one-on-one question-answer sessions, were given to students visiting Silmo Istanbul and attracted great interest.
Young opticians of Bursa and Istanbul chambers made presentations showing how young people can use their energy on behalf of the sector, talking about the activities they have done so far and will continue to carry out. While Lecturer Dr. Hatice Sermin Timlioğlu made her academic presentation titled "Low Vision", Nesrin Güneuy Ceylan presented "Low Vision (Visual Impairment) Equipment" and gave the audience comprehensive information on the subject. Dr. Meryem Bulakçıbaşı provided the audience with a unique viewpoint on the causes and processes of myopia through her presentation on the issue that has been gaining awareness recently: "Is the increase in myopia surprising?". On the other hand, Istanbul Bilgi University Lecturer Begüm Genç gave detailed information about "New generation myopia lenses" and expressed her views on new technological developments. Varied information, both general and specific, about contact lenses was conveyed to the opticians by Bülent Çakır and the features of the products were explained. Education Consultant Volkan Erkul's presentations on "Technology and Raw Materials that Make a Difference in Sunglasses Lenses" and "Benefit and service concepts specific to the optical sector" were observed with great interest by the students.
